Iowa Test of Basic Skills
Dunwoody Cluster Schools
Fall 2010 vs Fall 2011 Percentile Scores

These are Percentile scores, which compares the achievement a group of students to the achievement of a national sample of students who are in the same grade and who were tested at the same time of the year. For example, Austin 1st grade students scored better than 95 percent in Reading of other 1st grade students taking the test in the Fall of 2011; or Kingsley 3rd graders scored higher than 77% of other 3rd Grade Math takers in the Fall of 2011.

Dunwoody Resident Kelsey Lowrey Receives UGA Foundation Fellowship

Kelsey Lowrey, a Dunwoody resident and graduate of Chamblee Charter High School, is one of 26 University of Georgia students who have been awarded the Foundation Fellowship, the university’s premier undergraduate scholarship.  The Foundation Fellowship Program provides an array of academic enrichment and extracurricular opportunities to recipients, including international travel-studies, internships and research experiences. Individualized attention and student-faculty interactions are other major components that support the undergraduate community of future scholars and leaders. The Foundation Fellows are part of UGA’s academically rigorous Honors Program.

Congratulations to Kelsey!

Kelsey follows fellow Dunwoody resident and Dunwoody High Graduate Eilidh Geddes who was awarded the Foundation Fellowship last year.

Austin Elementary School & Chesnut Charter School Principals Leave DCSD

I received an email this morning alerting me to a post over on the Dunwoody Talk blog informing the community that Austin Elementary will also be looking for a new principal.

Update: Notification from Ms. Ogletree to Austin Community dated July 17th:

This evening I have been officially offered and have accepted the position of Director of Curriculum, K-5 for Marietta City Schools and today is my last day as principal at Austin. This is an exciting opportunity and a new challenge for me, however it is very difficult to leave such a wonderful school community.  Austin Elementary is truly a special place and I cherish my years here. I will always be grateful to have been a part of the excellence that is Austin.

Warmest regards,
Beth Ogletree

The following is the letter from Dr. Reid of Chesnut announcing his retirement:

Dear Staff, Parents and Members of the Chesnut Charter School Family,

After four enriching years at Chesnut Charter School, I want you to know that I recently applied to retire, effective August 1, 2012. The decision was not an easy one because of my deep connection to Chesnut, its students, its staff, and the greater Dunwoody community that supports it. My passion for education and love for students (which motivated me to enter this profession to begin with 36 years ago) hasn't diminished.
Admittedly, however, recent health-related issues, which I can not ignore, made me come to this decision sooner than I had planned.

As excited (and anxious) as I am about embarking on this new phase in my life, I also feel sad to be leaving this extraordinary school. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been a part in such a vibrant and supportive community - a community where education is valued as a top priority by students, teachers and parents alike. I feel blessed to have
been a colleague to such an extraordinary faculty and staff, and I feel humbled by the fact that parents in this community entrusted their most precious treasures-their children-in my hands. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your professionalism, support, friendship and encouragement throughout my stay here.

I wish all of you the very best and will miss each one of you very much.

With utmost sincerity and gratitude for the good years I had with you all,

Richard Reid, Ed. D.
