Dunwoody High School Math Team News

Results from Georgia Tech High School Math Competition

Congratulations to the DHS Math team on its performance in last weekend's Georgia Tech High School Mathematics Competition! The team placed 16th overall in a field of 84 teams.

With his score on the individual test, senior David Heavern became the first DHS player in many years (maybe ever) to qualify for the varsity finals. We also had several players narrowly miss making the finals, including Sara Srivastav, Wesley Dixon, Thomas Dellaert and Mallory Harris. Freshman Ryan Polk and sophomore Zack Bloomberg had our highest JV scores, finishing close behind our varsity players, remarkable because there was no separate JV division.

Congratulations to Mallory Harris for our top ciphering score in the tournament, finishing tied for 17th place overall, and also to Jacky Zhu who finished in the top 50. To give an idea of the difficulty level of the ciphering, about one-third of all the contestants scored zero, and the average contestant answered only one ciphering question correctly.

Also, a BIG Thank you to Dunwoody High Teacher,  Mr. Rand Wise, Sponsor of both the Dunwoody HS Math Team and Dunwoody HS Academic Quiz Bowl Team!!!
