"Every Kid Needs A Champion"

I heard this speech from Rita Pierson, via "The Bert Show" while driving to Chick-fil-A this morning.  It was so powerful to me as a parent.  Instead of hiring "motivational" speakers that have no experience in the educational field, perhaps Superintendent Thurmond may want to invite Ms. Pierson to speak to DeKalb Teachers.

  1. I know I heard it at the end of the last year and it helped me finish the year strong!! Unfortunately, Rita Pierson passed away this summer. You are right this will be shown again this year!!

  2. Sra, I am sorry to hear of Ms. Pierson'a passing. I also want you to know as I enter my final year at DHS that I, and my children, consider you one of those "Champions". Your influence continues with the oldest child as she continues on with her World Languages study at UGA.

After I posted this, I did worry that some would see that as a slight against teachers. Nothing could be further from the truth. Teachers are up there high on my hero list. I thought Ms. Pierson's words might be of some inspiration to teachers and parents.
